Wie is AEB Amsterdam?
We have over 100 years of experience as an Amsterdam-based waste management and energy company. Today our task is to produce energy from waste as sustainably and cleanly as possible. At AEB more than 300 people work every day to create a CO2-neutral organization where waste forms the basis for the efficient and effective supply of electricity, steam and district heating. When it comes to energy, we are on the verge of transforming AEB and setting an example in the metropolitan region Amsterdam and beyond. We are working hard to increase the value of our services by optimizing our assets and our processes in order to enable our industrial partners to transition from fossil fuels to renewables.

New Energy Services manages and develops the energy and CO2 portfolio within AEB. Our goal is to deliver energy cost-effectively and to reduce CO2 emissions, so providing added value to our customers. We are doing this by developing new energy sources and contracts and supplying our clients with heat, steam and electricity. We take care of the day-to-day operations and improve, automate and innovate processes where needed. Our team is growing and is driven to achieve our goals. Energy risk & portfolio manager (full time)

Your job
As Risk and Energy portfolio manager you will guide AEB to get the best commercial results and advise on the changing Energy landscape & policies. You will use your analytical, contracting and modelling skills to optimize and develop our energy portfolio and contracts together with our data scientists. You will set an example on how to acquire, develop and maintain, energy clients working together with the energy team to bring in new business. 

You are responsible for acquiring commercial energy results in the long and short term, in line with our vision and strategy. As a true professional you monitor and advise on energy policies, market trends, monitor risks and create energy strategies for the position of AEB within the boundaries of our risk policy.  

You evaluate opportunities and you know how to trigger actions to monetize market opportunities for selling and managing the risks of our energy products. Here you contribute proactively in setting up new energy contracts and hedging. Above all you are always looking for new innovations and new opportunities to increase our market opportunities and reduce our risks advancing our services and capabilities.

What you bring

To be able to do this job well and to get true job satisfaction, you have a university degree in ICT/ Engineering/ Physics/ Econometrics. You are also familiar with math, physics and econometry. You should have at least 5 years' work experience as an energy portfolio manager. Preferably you have a background in energy trading or energy environment. The nature of the position also requires assertiveness and self-reliance. Your qualities also include:

  • An entrepreneurial and commercial mindset
  • Results orientated, creative, and flexible
  • Analytical and data driven
  • Proven experience in modelling
  • A team player
  • Good communication skills with a technical background and strong business affinity
  • Hands on and pragmatic, able to launch fast and iterate
  • Fluent in Dutch, English is a pre
